So I hang with Kayla and read for the most part, and occasionally post here or on Facebook. In addition to reading the aforementioned Armstrong book about The Case for God, I am also finishing a novel for a book group which I am enjoying more than I expected. Haven't finished it yet (have a few more days) but do like the story and the writing. Here is the book with a cover different from the copy I have, but I can't find the cover I have online. It's called The Wishbones.I took a Facebook quiz thing today (well, it wasn't on Facebook, it was an offline site, but I found it on Facebook) where you can copy/paste a sample of your writing and find out who you write like. I pasted a 1000 word short story and came up as Stephen King. I pasted a blog entry from this blog and was told I write like David Wallace Foster. I LOVE Stephen King novels, so it's no wonder my writing mirrors his (though without the horror). He's a phenomenal writer, and I'd love to sit down and have drinks and dinner with him sometime.
I never heard of David Wallace Foster, so I googled him and found out he hung himself two years ago at the age of 46, which is just so sad. Haven't read anything of his but maybe I will. He wrote Infinite Jest, as well as some short story collections and some non-fiction. Anyone out there read him? If so, any recommendations? So sad that he took his own life. So young.

Anyway, back to reading for me after this brief respite. Hope you are all staying cool!

David Foster Wallace used to live and teach in our town, Susan. Tim Feeney, one of his former students, put a notice of his death on the door of Babbitt's Books as soon as the news hit the internet. Within the hour, a reporter called Tim from Chicago to talk about the notice on the door. Cell phones with cameras are amazing....
